Performance: “An Evening with Tracie Morris.” Provocative dinner theater with NY sound artist, poet, actor and scholar, Tracie Morris, presenting her revisionist vocal performance of Stanley Kubrick’s “Eye’s Wide Shut,” while it screens. The event is at the Scottish Rites Cathedral on Friday, April 7, starting at 5pm. Join us in the lobby and grand hall for casual dinner and drinks from 5-6pm, mary Turcotte on piano. The performance runs 6-8:30pm (with 20 minute intermission), followed by UA Professor Dr Stephanie Troutman leading a post-performance talk back onstage with Morris.

Meet the Author: Tracie Morris, at the University of Arizona Museum of Art, 1031 N Olive 85721, Thursday, April 6, 3-5pm. Join visiting author Tracie Morris for a meet-n-greet, talk and reading from her recent book of vocal and poetic experiments. Works from the collection by John Cage and Kurt Schwitters (featured in Morris’ new book) will be on view. FREE and open to the public.
Panel Discussion: “Sound & Politics,” at the Jewish History Museum/Holocaust History Center, 564 S Stone Ave, 85701, Saturday, April 8, 12:30-2pm. Join “noise” musicians and scholars Tracie Morris, Mark Hosler, and Bob Ostertag for an interactive conversation on how sound shapes politics, history, activism, and protest. The panel is part of the Tucson Noise Symposium. FREE
Performance: Collaborators Noise Showcase, Steinfeld Warehouse, 101 W Sixth St, 85701, Saturday, April 8, 3-5pm. Tracie Morris and poet – musician Sam Ace will create a collaborative-improvisational set. The showcase is part of Tucson’s Noise Symposium, co-sponsored by POG, UA Poetics Research Group, and Tucson-Poetry Festival. FREE.
Workshop: Sound and Body, Dunbar Pavillion, 325 w. 2nd St, Sunday, April 9, 9am-noon, Tracie Morris leads a three-hour intensive workshop on how sonic intent and sonic exploration can be cultivated as a way of creating page-based and physically-embodied poetics. Discussion, freewriting, body work, play, writing and revision with sound. $40.
Tracie Morris is a poet, singer, critic, scholar, bandleader and actor. She holds an MFA in Poetry from Hunter College, has studied classical British acting technique at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London, American acting technique at Michael Howard Studios, is an alum of Cave Canem’s prestigious summer residency as well as residencies at MacDowell, Millay and Yaddo. She holds a PhD in Performance Studies from New York University. Her work has been presented at the Whitney Biennial, Ron Feldman Gallery, The New Museum, Philadelphia Museum of Art, Museum of Modern Art and Dia:Chelsea and dozens of musical recording projects. Her books include Intermission, Rhyme Scheme and handholding: 5 kinds and is co-editor of Best American Experimental Writing (2016) with Charles Bernstein. Tracie is Professor and Coordinator of the MFA program in Performance + Performance Studies at Pratt Institute, Brooklyn.
