Artist Interviews & Micro-Performances at KXCI Congress Street Studio

Kore Press and KXCI Congress Street, the new studio of Tucson’s nonprofit community radio station, are partnering to record live interviews, conversations, and micro performances by visiting artists who have contributed work to Kore’s forthcoming, groundbreaking anthology Letters to the Future: BLACK Women / RADICAL Writing (eds Erica Hunt, Dawn Lundy Martin), over 5-years in the making. The new studio provides a visual and sonic connector to the community by offering opportunities for Tucson to see and hear creative soundtracks of happenings downtown and beyond. The public is welcome into the studio as quiet, audience members during the conversations with local thinkers/writers, and for the unique micro-performances. The audio will be broadcast real-time onto the street as a soundscape for passers-by, and will later be edited into a podcast. Here is the line-up, as it currently stands:
  • Duriel Harris interviewed by Stephanie Troutman, Wed, Oct 18, 9am
  • Lillian-Yvonne Bertram interviewed by TC Tolbert, Thursday, Oct 19, 9 am
  • Tisa Bryant interviewed by Aisha Sabatini Sloan, Friday, Oct 20, 8 am
  • Tracie Morris interviewed by Denise Uyehara, Sunday, Oct 22, 11am
  • Dawn Lundy Martin interviewed by Elizabeth Burden, Sunday, Oct 22 10am
Sound engineering by Cathy Rivers and Bridgitte Thum of KXCI Community Radio.
The artists are here for the Thinking Its Presence 2017: Race, Advocacy and Solidarity in the Arts conference at the UA Poetry Center. Kore’s interview sessions are part of the Press’ exciting pre-publication event series from October to December in Tucson. Stay tuned for information about an Off-the-Page Salon and Ephemeral Exhibit of visual and audio works from Letters to the Future, at the Dunbar Community Center, Tucson, as part of the African American Cultural Center’s 100th anniversary, and discounted books and free educational materials for area educators.
