After three successful workshops on culturally responsive practices and trans competency, Kore Press Institute is pleased to offer this training to help all educators develop their gender literacy, allyship skills, and awareness for creating more inclusive and safer learning spaces for all.

The two days includes learning to navigate the social constructions of gender (including our own), the pitfalls of implicit bias, identifying areas for growth, develop strategies for moving beyond limitations in our current practice.

In this experiential, two-day intensive, we will work with a sense of openness and connection, engage in facilitated self-reflection, and work in small groups to deepen our practices for navigating the social constructions of gender. We will investigate our own internalized notions about gender, dialog and practice together, and develop strategies for cultivating safer and more inclusive classrooms, work spaces, and systems for learning and relationship-building within our family and community.

Teré Fowler Chapman, Teré is a gender fluid writer, educator and former assistant principle in Tucson—by way of sonoran desert | by way of boot’s bayou. This poet is the Words on the Avenue founder and the first African American executive director of the Tucson Poetry Festival. They are a National Arts Strategies’ Creative Community fellow, and a “Bettering American Poetry 2016” nominee. They are an educator, a wife, and a family man. Teré is co-leading Gender Work!


Em Bowen is the Executive Director of the Tucson Poetry Festival, a bilingual Waldorf educator, a storyteller, a writer, an essayist, a poet and a person who thrives and is always changing (much as we all are, whether we realize it or not). Their work has been published in the Tucson Weekly, The Atlantic, Zocalo, Wild Gender, The Feminist Wire, and most recently live on the stand-up comic stages of Tucson. Em earned their MFA from Goddard College and is the former producer of the Tucson Gender Identity Project. Em is co-leading Gender Work


Eve Rifkin, holds her B.A.from the University of Maryland, an M.Ed from Northern Arizona University and a doctoral degree in Education Leadership and Policy from Vanderbilt University. She is an Arizona certified secondary teacher, holds National Board Certificate in English/Language Arts, and teaches doctoral candidates online for Vanderbilt University. As the Dean of Students and School Culture and co-founder of Tucson’s City High School, Eve focuses on supporting the academic and social-emotional needs of all students through a robust advisory program and an open and accepting school culture. Eve has been an educator for over twenty years, and feels privileged to be able to connect with kids in meaningful ways every single day. Eve is providing facilitation support for Gender Werk!
